When I take the time to stop and think about language and the influence it has had on my life, I start to realize why I’ve decided to go on my current path. Growing up in the United States in a family of immigrants, learning to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish was crucial. While it took time to reach a point where I could find pride in this aspect of my identity, I know that it has shaped me into someone who can help others to find the importance of language learning for themselves. Language learning has been a path that I have been on and hope to continue for the rest of my life.
Beginning with learning English and Spanish at home, to learning English at school and taking Spanish courses to further develop my learning, to attempts at learning other languages, to where I am now. After deciding to major in and receiving my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts at Harrisburg Area Community College, I now find myself nearing the end of the pursuit of my Bachelor's Degree in English with a concentration in ESL Linguistics at Millersville University. Throughout this educational journey, I have gained more in depth knowledge on the English language and its many components, as well as the methods and means in which I can share this knowledge with new language learners.
Following my graduation, a career in English as a Second Language will be my goal to further pursue my own learning and teaching. Whether it be teaching English to students in the United States or going to other countries and sharing my experience and expertise all the while being exposed to more opportunities to learn more myself, language learning and teaching is the path which I will follow.
